_Amsterdam_ doesn't try to do anything groundbreaking, but it executes everything adequately enough that I enjoyed myself while watching it in the cinema. The acting was consistently strong across the board. Christian Bale was exceptional; it’s remarkable how he delivers a standout performance with every character he takes on, and I often wonder what his limitations are. Margot Robbie also gave a very good showing. She sometimes falls into her Harley Quinn persona, which I enjoy, but it was nice to see her break away from that in _Amsterdam_. John David Washington’s part was acceptable; I rarely feel like he gives truly memorable performances, though he always does what's necessary for the role, and that holds true here. The supporting cast also did well—Rami Malek and Anna Taylor-Joy had some amusing chemistry together. Mike Myers and Robert De Niro were perfectly serviceable as well. While the plot wasn’t particularly original, I really enjoyed following it to its conclusion. There are several entertaining surprises throughout, and they managed to keep me engaged for almost two and a half hours. Although many reviewers have been quite critical of this film, I believe it's worthwhile—a fun watch despite any shortcomings.
