This is a standard action film reminiscent of those produced in the eighties, but its quality hasn’t aged well. The story centers around an American soldier possessing unique abilities who is assigned to an island military installation plagued by hijackings of supply routes. After his own convoy comes under attack, he initially works alongside others until an incident involving the Colonel's daughter prompts him to take action. He has lost most memories from a childhood explosion on an island, though it’s clear he received extensive training. The appearance of ninjas pursuing him reveals that his capabilities extend far beyond ordinary combat skills. I appreciated certain elements, especially the initial fight between Joe and the Black Star Ninja. The beginning is also quite impressive; there's a memorable moment where arrows are fired at him, and he redirects them using a shovel handle—a truly iconic scene that captivated me when I was younger. However, upon revisiting it recently, I found it hasn’t stood the test of time. While some of the hand-to-hand combat is decent, gun battles feel like something out of a Stephen J. Cannell television series, characterized by excessive gunfire without any apparent impact. Furthermore, the stunt work suffers from issues such as slow execution, revealing that the actor isn't performing the stunts themselves (particularly during a motorcycle jump), and in one instance, needing an improbable helicopter hover to allow the stuntman time to prepare for his leap.
