The film initially evokes memories of the Tunisian beach attacks that occurred in 2015, depicting a scenario where "Rapp" (Dylan O'Brien) and his girlfriend become embroiled in a shooting with devastating consequences. Fueled by a desire for retribution, Rapp’s actions draw the attention of the CIA, leading to an arrangement where he undergoes intense ninja training under the guidance of “Hurley” (Michael Keaton). Collaborating with local intelligence operatives, they pinpoint their target, but after several unsuccessful efforts, they find themselves pursuing a criminal who also harbors intentions of vengeance against American forces. O'Brien is pleasant enough to watch, however, the rest feels incredibly familiar. Action sequences unfold in a continuous cycle as the story progresses, accompanied by questions of loyalty and the introduction of an unexpected adversary, "Ghost" (Taylor Kitsch), who has his own grievances with “Hurley.” It’s purely genre material, running just under two hours without much difficulty (although the CGI effects near the end are noticeably subpar for a 2017 release!). It's doubtful that you will remember it afterward, and the narrative lacks any real sense of danger, so expectations should be tempered.
