I’m usually on board with Michael Bay films, even when they veer into ridiculousness. But his newest film, Ambulance, which clocks in at somewhere between ninety and one hundred minutes, feels padded out to over two hours and became tiresome fairly fast—particularly the aerial or drone footage, which honestly made me feel a little queasy. The script wasn’t great either; there were some awkward attempts at humor that fell flat, alongside several scenes involving minor characters that felt like they didn't need to be there. Still, Jake Gyllenhaal is convincing as someone unstable, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has a few good moments. It was also nice to hear Bay and composer Lorne Balfe reuse music from 13 Hours at the very end. Overall, this isn’t one I'll be watching again. **1.75/5**
