"Altered" doesn’t quite fit into the standard sci-fi action thriller category. The notion of a protagonist who isn't particularly admirable confronting a society built on eugenics is an interesting departure. The premise has potential but would have benefited from a tighter script and some refinement, especially regarding the somewhat awkward action sequences. Despite this, the central character and his adopted daughter are easy to root for; the backstory possesses at least some originality, and the depiction of the dystopian world feels carefully considered. Ultimately, "Altered" stands out in a mostly good way. It's disappointing that more resources weren’t invested to elevate the film, but it remains worth watching.
