The story centers on "Cross," portrayed by Morgan Freeman, a detective who has stepped away from his career following a tragic event that resulted in the death of his wife. He’s then pulled back into action when the daughter of a senator—played by Michael Moriarty—is abducted by one of her instructors. The man contacts “Cross” hoping he can assist in recovering the girl, and so the investigation begins. Working alongside a former Secret Service agent named "Flannigan," portrayed by Monica Potter, they must work to solve what appears to be a simple case. However, the film’s main issue is its predictability; the mystery isn't particularly complex, and the progression of events feels very conventional. There's not much suspense to be found, and the characters feel somewhat detached and impersonal—it just doesn’t create any real tension until the final moments, which leave you feeling a bit underwhelmed. Freeman is undeniably likable, but even that isn’t enough to elevate this formulaic movie from a director who seemed either unable or unwilling to make it more engaging or thought-provoking. It feels like something made for television—and not something you'll remember much about next week.
