A group of disturbed individuals manage to escape from a mental institution during a power outage. They then put a doctor and his family at risk when they target their farmhouse, located in New Jersey. Donald Pleasence portrays the unusual director of the facility, joined by Jack Palance and Martin Landau. "Alone in the Dark," released in 1982, isn't widely known but takes inspiration from films like "Silent Night, Bloody Night," "Halloween," and “Night of the Living Dead.” The presence of Pleasence, Palance, and Landau is a definite plus; it seems like experienced performers enjoying themselves while earning some money later in their careers. Toni and Carol Levy also make an impression among the female characters. While one is attractive, there's a feeling she could use a better diet. Although not exceptional, the film has interesting details, such as the concept of a “progressive” asylum, Toni’s recovery from a recent mental health episode, the comparison between those considered crazy inside and outside of institutions, and The Sic F##ks’ performance at a local club. Interestingly, years later, a band member recognized Palance and told him who he was, to which Jack replied, "We were all sick f##ks in that movie.” The film's length is 1 hour and 32 minutes, and filming took place in New Jersey—specifically Ridgewood, Newark, Hillsdale, and Englewood.
