"Almost an Angel" proves to be a genuinely enjoyable and pleasant movie that manages to shift its mood with impressive skill. A notable example of this is Steve Garner’s storyline; he faces a serious illness, and his condition appears quite poor. The filmmakers don't avoid presenting these difficult realities, and it would have been easy to resolve them by having Terry Dean’s angelic nature miraculously cure him, allowing him to live. Instead, the movie takes a different path, accelerating Steve’s decline when he is unintentionally wounded by a broken bottle. This event had the potential to disrupt the film's flow, but thankfully it was managed with care and doesn’t detract from the humor found in other parts of the story.
