_All We Imagine as Light_, which received the Grand Prix at Cannes, is a visually subtle film examining intimacy, displacement, and the quiet pursuit of connection. Taking place in Mumbai, the story centers on three women working in a hospital setting as they deal with personal challenges and brief moments of closeness. The movie’s calm feel and dreamlike visuals establish an introspective atmosphere that may connect with audiences looking for emotional reflection. However, despite its recognition, _All We Imagine as Light_ feels like something I've encountered before rather than a truly original piece of work. It benefits from its deliberate pace and understated acting but relies on familiar storylines. The narrative focuses on a short period of change in the characters’ lives without offering definitive conclusions. While this could appeal to viewers who appreciate slower, more thoughtful films, it might leave others feeling like they've seen something similar done better. A lack of emotional resonance can make the film’s length feel excessive, prompting some to wonder if its unclear ending was intentional or a weakness in the storytelling. There were times when _All We Imagine as Light_ felt insubstantial—certainly beautiful, but brief and ultimately not fulfilling. The focus on a few months in each character's life is interesting, but the film has difficulty finding fresh perspectives on the familiar topic of human disconnection. The acting is good, though it needs to be even stronger to make the movie truly exceptional. Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam all portray their characters with a sense of realism. Nevertheless, the characters don’t evolve beyond their basic roles—separated lovers, isolated employees, and people seeking purpose. In conclusion, _All We Imagine as Light_ is an agreeable but somewhat underwhelming film. It stays in your thoughts not because it deeply affects you, but because it makes you question whether you've seen this story somewhere else before. It’s a nice movie to watch, providing moments of beauty and introspection, even if it doesn’t quite live up to the attention it has received.
