The film *All the Old Knives* boasts a remarkable ensemble and an engaging starting point; however, director Janus Metz’s lack of imagination reduces what could have been something special to just another forgettable movie. Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton are excellent in their roles, and the palpable connection between them elevates even a straightforward dinner scene into the most compelling part of the story. The frequent jumps across various time periods and viewpoints disrupt the momentum, slow down the pace, and detract from Olen Steinhauer’s reasonably good script. Laurence Fishburne and Jonathan Pryce also feel like they aren't utilized to their full potential. It isn't a film I would advise against seeing, but it ultimately ends with a disappointing sensation. Rating: C
