"Pete," portrayed by co-writer Tom Stourton, journeys to reunite with university friends for his birthday weekend at a beautiful country estate belonging to one of their parents. His arrival is immediately awkward; he discovers everyone has gone to the pub without him. This incident establishes the atmosphere for what follows – a comedy drama that feels stretched thin. Pete, a dedicated charity worker in Africa, slowly finds himself feeling isolated from his friends and increasingly suspicious of “Harry” (Dustin Demri-Burns), who seems intent on turning them against him. The initial concept shows promise, but the film falters as Pete's paranoia intensifies, even when his girlfriend "Sonia" (Charly Clive) appears to participate before a final act that couldn’t have been more unfortunate for him. The comedy arises from familiar portrayals of privileged young men and someone from a less refined background, mixed with cocaine use, alcohol, and some sexual undercurrents. However, the film never truly distinguishes itself. Stourton seems hampered by an inability to appear comfortable on screen, despite his efforts. The other characters are underdeveloped and rather unpleasant, and I confess that around halfway through, I had lost interest in them or their fates. Director Andrew Gaynord likely faced budgetary constraints, and while the production values are acceptable, there simply wasn't enough plot material to sustain the story.
