I wasn't really expecting much from this film initially. The beginning unfolds at a deliberate speed, maintaining that measured feeling throughout. However, there are moments of intense emotion and surprising discoveries to be found. I feel bad for anyone who gets frustrated by movies with intricate storylines that require attention to detail; they might even fall asleep during a Shakespeare performance ("Why aren't they speaking normally?"). The historical accuracy in All is True isn’t entirely spot on, but it’s worth remembering that even Shakespeare wasn’t always faithful to his sources, which were frequently accounts of history written by those who benefited from the situation or avoided execution. I believe the complex and unhurried narrative ultimately provides a reward for viewers willing to invest their time. I enjoyed Anne Hathaway's performance and would have liked to see more of her character, and the depiction of Shakespeare’s family dynamic is quite well done. If you haven’t seen this film yet, there's an amusing bit of information on this page about a scene involving Branagh and Dench—it’s truly delightful. I did notice one criticism suggesting that the ages of the three principal actors don't match up with the historical figures they portray, but I think it was worth it to have Branagh, Dench, and McKellan in those roles. And also, the music is exceptionally good.
