It’s hard to say that I actively loathed watching 'Aliens vs Predator: Requiem', but it certainly isn’t a good film; in fact, it manages to be remarkably uninteresting. It's fortunate the runtime is fairly brief, around 90 minutes, because otherwise I might have genuinely come to despise it. My biggest complaint lies with the cinematography – or rather, the lack of light. The movie is so visually dark that distinguishing between the massive creatures becomes difficult most of the time. There’s also an intended reveal near the end, but it's hard to make out who it involves. It was a strange decision. The story and characters are incredibly forgettable; it's just another monster(s) attacks a small town movie – something audiences have encountered countless times before. It feels like 'Eight Legged Freaks', but of lower quality. If I had to choose someone as a highlight, John Ortiz stands out, though that’s not saying much. The storyline involving the Howard brothers is exceptionally ordinary and poorly presented. It’s easy to see why this film received so much criticism; it’s the weakest entry in either franchise.
