It feels like everything possible has already been said regarding this movie, but let’s examine why its rating is so low on another website. Here are some observations from a reviewer who enjoys widespread support from their audience. 1. At times the viewers seem incredibly bored, while at other points they appear confused by the unusual action sequences. Unusual action? Was it too strange to follow? And I apologize if you were unengaged by the exceptional cinematography and pacing which was deliberately measured to avoid feeling hurried; that leads me to my next point. 2. ...it’s a disconnected and rushed experience. The story seemed straightforward to me. But can it be both boring and rushed? 3. The direction is unclear, and there doesn't appear to be an actual screenplay here. This just states the movie is bad without providing any explanation. It doesn’t seem very helpful. 4. Charles Dutton does a decent job, but his character isn’t developed enough to truly become compelling. Everyone else seems merely present... Dutton’s character doesn't require further development. What would you prefer, him having some sort of religious experience? Dance’s backstory is interesting, and we learn small details about the other characters—for example, the IQ of one of the guards who ultimately sacrifices himself for his beliefs; that’s quite a bit of character progression for a minor role in a science fiction thriller. And that seems to be the main issue people have with "Alien³"—they expect it to be like "Alien," a horror film, or an action movie similar to "Aliens." 5. Overall, it's disappointing and not very impressive. 2 stars out of 5. It’s more negativity without any real justification for it. This film is clearly undervalued, and if this reviewer had seen what we have, particularly in the science fiction genre since then, they might reconsider their view of what constitutes a "disconnected and rushed" experience. I'm awarding 5 stars not to artificially inflate the overall score, but because “Alien³” concludes Ripley’s story in a distinctive and imaginative way, without insulting the viewer’s intelligence or repeating previous plot elements. 4 August 2017 I am moving my reviews from another site that has become unusable.
