Gone are the family-friendly aspects, neat resolutions, and distracting characters with firearms. This is a profoundly somber and affecting film that feels like a direct continuation of *Alien* (1979). The acting is consistently strong—particularly Charles Dance as prison doctor Clemens, and Sigourney Weaver, who delivers what may be her finest portrayal of the beleaguered Ripley.
