Alien: Romulus initially shows potential, presenting fresh perspectives on the Alien universe alongside striking visuals and an unsettling mood. Unfortunately, things begin to decline roughly thirty minutes in—and that downward trend intensifies as time passes. The most significant issue is the constant and intensely irritating fan service and visual references to earlier installments, along with a poorly executed CGI version of Ash from *Alien*. These instances completely disrupt the viewing experience and destroy any sense of atmosphere or tension the director created. It’s comparable to someone demanding recognition: “Remember this iconic line from *Aliens*? Do you recall it? What about this one from the original *Alien*? Don't we seem clever for including it here?” The effect is deeply frustrating. Adding to that, the storyline essentially repeats elements of *Alien* and *Prometheus*, resulting in a film that feels lacking in originality and easy to anticipate. The younger actors also contribute to a “Camp Crystal Lake in space” feeling, which doesn't improve matters. Despite this, there are some positive aspects—a few inventive action sequences, for example—and David Jonsson delivers an excellent performance as the android Andy. However, these brief moments of quality aren’t sufficient to elevate the movie above average.
