"Alien: Romulus" manages to be quite striking visually, yet ultimately feels lacking in originality and fails to offer anything particularly insightful. It seems primarily focused on drawing ideas from earlier installments; the only film in the franchise seemingly untouched by this approach is "Alien 3" (1992), though that’s not exactly unexpected. Dedicated fans who cherish these movies for their innovative qualities and hold Ellen Ripley in high esteem aren't likely to discover anything here to admire or revere. While it remains a passably enjoyable movie, the experience largely consists of trying to figure out which scenes were borrowed from what previous film, just to distract yourself from feeling let down by the whole thing.
