I really liked *Alien: Romulus*. Compared to the newer movies in this series, I’ve had the most fun with this one. Right after leaving the theater, I just thought it was a good film, but the more I've considered it, the more enjoyment I’ve gotten from this seventh movie. The story's initial setup isn't particularly original; it seems like many films—including others in this franchise—feature crews with similar people and comparable motivations. *Crater* and *I.S.S.* (both of which are very good, I should add) come to mind as recent examples. Fortunately, the rest of the movie compensates for any shortcomings there. Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson were standouts; I thought they both gave excellent performances throughout. They’re actors I'd like to see more of, having already enjoyed them in a few films such as *Civil War* and *Rye Lane*. I also appreciated the sound design, and even the jump scares—which I don't usually care for (they often feel uninspired)—were effective here. The facehuggers remain incredibly well-done, although the xenomorph wasn’t used as effectively; the human version didn't really resonate with me, feeling reminiscent of *I Am Legend*. Overall, it ranks among my favorites in the franchise. For me, *Alien* and *Aliens* are just slightly better, but it's a noticeable step up from (the entertaining) *Alien Resurrection*, and it’s superior to all the other installments.
