I recently finished watching some Ingmar Bergman films, so I figured I’d give my mind a break. Now, I’m really questioning whether it will ever fully recover after experiencing this derivative and poorly acted science fiction film. The basic premise involves something falling from the sky, and then a group of American soldiers disappears. "Lt. Col. Adrian" (played by Xavi Israel) is denied authorization to search for them, so he assembles a secret team and they set out on their own. Soon enough, they find what crashed, and it turns out that whatever came down isn’t interested in being taken captive. It has significant firepower, including a clever purple laser, and the ability to become invisible. I assumed it would be an easy victory, but unfortunately, we're forced into a drawn-out conflict where a series of lesser-known actors are eliminated – though not quickly enough – by our visitor from the Screen Actor’s Guild. Maybe he should have gone after the writer and director as well—pretty much everyone involved in this blatant exploitation of the "Predator" name, really? Even the special effects seem to suffer, resembling something out of an older “Stargate” episode. Honestly, twenty minutes into it, I was yearning for more Bergman. This isn't even fit to air on the Sci-Fi Channel late at night.
