It’s a bit improved over Prometheus, I will give it that. It gets somewhat nearer to the feel of the original Alien...though being closer doesn't mean it reaches anything like the scale of the 1979 film—mother, queen, whatever you want to call it. It still tries to be something it’s not. There’s this idea hanging around that it’s more like "Chinatown" than a straightforward monster movie set in space. I'm really not interested in an Alien film that thinks it’s “Raging Bull.” That kind of approach just doesn’t suit the material. What I want is an Alien movie that understands itself as an Alien movie. Just keep things simpler! You are, mostly, a monster movie taking place in space—and sometimes a space marine movie. Regardless, there's no need to try out so many different ideas. Not everything has to work!!!!! You’re an Alien film; you don’t have to be profound, you just need to be frightening. That’s all that’s required. And, perhaps include Ripley—she was fantastic. Really though, the Alien films are about monsters. These movies seem to have lost sight of that.
