The gore effects in *’Alien: Covenant'* are a definite highlight, but beyond that, there's not a great deal to get excited about; it’s perfectly acceptable, but nothing more. I think this installment suffers from a less impressive ensemble than previous entries, and while the actors do fine work, I didn’t find myself particularly invested in any of them—this film came out in 2017. Michael Fassbender is clearly the strongest performer, although I don't especially care for his character. The other roles are pretty easy to overlook. It’s clear a lot of effort went into the production values; it certainly looks good and it’s worth seeing if you want to experience everything the series has to offer. Still, among the six films, this one would rank near the bottom of my personal list—though that's not necessarily a harsh judgment, as the *Alien* movies have been consistently strong overall.
