It must be difficult for a director when they have to satisfy a very enthusiastic audience. The “Star Wars” sequels illustrate this problem well, and Ridley Scott faces something similar with his “Alien” prequels, as reflected in what viewers are saying online. I really enjoyed "Prometheus" because it tried to do more than just show face huggers and xenomorphs causing destruction. It was obvious he was developing a larger narrative that would connect to the first "Alien." “Alien: Covenant” carries on this expansive story, and regardless of whether he intended to or not, there’s an element of what fans expect with those familiar creatures. (I won't give away details because they are shown in the previews.) Before seeing the film, I suggest watching the short called "Last Supper" (youtu.be/EkXgRlRao5I). It runs just five minutes and offers a more effective introduction to the crew of the Covenant than the movie itself does, which allows you to become more emotionally connected to these characters. In the end, “Alien: Covenant” is an impressive, quick-moving science fiction action horror film—it really covers several genres—in the style that only Ridley Scott can achieve, and it keeps exploring the themes introduced in "Prometheus" about creation.
