The 'Alien' series returned with 'Prometheum,' initially presented as a separate story, and now the original title is back for another prequel installment in what seems to be a planned set of prequels. The next one will follow suit, continuing this approach before all the pieces of the franchise fit together. I found it enjoyable, though not quite up to par with 'Prometheum' or the initial two 'Alien' movies. My main criticism is that it relies on familiar tropes. There wasn’t much new in the narrative; it felt like a standard space film with a predictable setup. Roughly eighty percent of what I watched mirrored scenes from earlier ‘Alien’ films, just reworked with different actors and impressive visuals – those updates are what make it stand out. The plot centered too heavily on the robot characters, diminishing the role of the aliens. It presented their beginnings—genetic alterations and crossbreeding led to these creatures. Ultimately, the film reinforced a common human fear: that machines will cause our extinction, only with aliens complicating matters and introducing another tired theme seen in many sci-fi stories featuring humanoid figures. Despite this, it's a well-crafted film, balancing elements from previous successes while paving the way for future installments. It acts as a good transition between them, spanning eighteen years from 2104 to 2122. I’m looking forward to the next movie, which I understand will focus more on the robots—that promises to be something different. Fassbender is due for some space adventures. _7/10_
