Alien: Covenant holds up surprisingly well on repeated viewings; it’s more rewarding than an initial impression might suggest. The shift in direction compared to Prometheus initially misled many viewers, as people anticipated something different and didn't receive it. There’s a wealth of detail and the performances are strong, requiring multiple watches to fully appreciate everything. It successfully combines elements from Alien, Aliens, and Prometheus, achieving that blend exceptionally well. Numerous subtle references to Terminator 2 are also present throughout. The relationship between the androids Walter and David is particularly noteworthy, with acting that recalls T:2, and my earlier viewings didn't give Walter the character consideration he warranted; I was too focused on David. Walter’s portrayal incorporates aspects of the android from Aliens, specifically mirroring Bishop’s voice and mannerisms to connect his design. Michael Fassbender delivered a remarkable performance as both Walter and David. Later in the film, another nod to Terminator 2 appears with a clearly labeled beam, followed by a scene that echoes the style of T:2 and Aliens. The acting is consistently strong, and details are plentiful throughout. While there are moments where the plot feels somewhat contrived, overall the movie has earned a place among my favorites, alongside Aliens and Terminator 2.
