It struggles onward, burdened by its own sense of significance. I’m a fan of movies that take themselves very seriously, and this one certainly fits the bill. I enjoy films that are overflowing with a condescending, solemn, and presumptuous air, suggesting that nothing could possibly be as vital as the story unfolding on screen. The film acts like it possesses all the answers. It seems to believe it understands everything that we—the audience, considered unimportant and naive—could never comprehend due to our lack of intelligence. Considering how confident and enlightened this movie portrays itself to be, I'm surprised by how often each character behaves foolishly, making poor choices one after another. Ridley and the people who wrote the script appear to want to be seen as intellectuals, but they simply don’t manage to convincingly portray that image.
