This film shows some promise in trying to emulate Ridley Scott’s science fiction horror masterpiece. It doesn’t come close, but there's something intriguing about this effort. We are presented with Italy’s rather unusual Alien 2: On Earth (Sulla Terra). The movie comes from first-time directors Biagio Proietti and Ciro Ippolito, who previously acted in and wrote for several Italian productions before tackling what seems like their most significant project yet. Ridley Scott introduced the world to Alien in 1979, a suspenseful and atmospheric horror film taking place on a commercial spaceship, leaving its victims with nowhere to hide or escape. It appeared straightforward enough to create a follow-up. However, Ippolito and Proietti didn’t seem interested in making a true sequel. This feels completely disconnected from the original. The story centers around a group of cave explorers who head out for a weekend exploring an abandoned cavern that contains an ancient creature sleeping for millennia. These insensitive people go deeper into the caves, unintentionally waking up the monster, which then starts killing them off individually. It resembles The Beast From the Haunted Cave more than anything else. It’s obvious this started as its own project and wasn't really connected to Alien. Though there is a clear borrowing of ideas with creatures bursting out of human bodies—just one creature in this case. This stands out amidst the otherwise lackluster presentation. The film was released in Italy on April 11th, 1980, and the Alien title was added purely to draw viewers. It’s blatant false advertising. So, it's not a genuine xenomorph movie, and its quality is quite low—I would certainly be requesting a refund. Perhaps the actors can redeem it?
