Alice, Darling offers a thoughtful examination of abusive relationships. The script by Alanna Francis is notable for its deep and considerate portrayal of Anna Kendrick's character—a performance that feels like her finest work to date—as well as the strength found in supportive female friendships. It’s presented without sensationalism, showing how damaging emotional abuse can be, comparable to physical harm, and highlighting just how challenging it is to break free from a harmful dynamic. Mary Nighy's direction doesn't entirely avoid familiar tropes within this kind of story, but she has reason to feel good about her impressive and meaningful first time directing a film. Rating: B+
