From the opening moments, I sensed this movie would either be wonderfully awful or just okay—there was no middle ground. Surprisingly, I found myself enjoying ‘Aladin’. It isn't a particularly good film, not at all. But it shares qualities with movies like 'The Cat in the Hat,' so reactions to it are often split. If you can find something to appreciate, you will probably enjoy it; otherwise, you won’t. I was among those who liked it. The performers contribute significantly to its appeal. Riteish Deshmukh is well-cast as Aladin, and Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt are fun to watch as Genius and Jaffar. Despite the title, the movie feels more like a reference to 'Aladdin’ than a fresh version of the traditional story. I appreciated this approach; it may be silly, but it works for me. I did begin to lose interest toward the conclusion, so the length is definitely excessive. It would have been better if it were around 90 minutes instead of 132. I’d probably give it a much lower score if not for the cast's charm and its lack of self-importance; that is, until the very end. I understand why someone might dislike this movie, but I didn’t—quite the opposite, actually.
