The film’s entertainment value comes from the spirited performances of the central actors and its sharp commentary on Bollywood and the movie business overall, elevating what might otherwise have been a fairly standard thriller drama with touches of dark comedy. What I appreciated most was the playful jabs that the film and its characters make at one another—particularly those directed toward Anurag Kashyap, who appears to be self-mocking—and the industry's own flaws; it’s genuinely funny and likely to elicit a reaction from viewers throughout. The meta aspects of the story are engaging as they develop. While AK vs AK isn’t a classic film, and its occasional use of coarse language prevents it from being entirely breezy, it remains impactful, and Anil Kapoor and Kashyap deserve praise for their willingness to undertake something so unusual. It's worth seeing. Grade B.
