It felt inevitable that they’d make another one given how well the first movie did, but this just doesn't measure up. The premise is basically the same, except instead of an airplane, it involves a lunar space shuttle. "Ted" (Robert Hays) has been cleared – with Raymond Burr, playing himself as “Perry Mason,” confirming it – after his wartime PTSD surfaced, or maybe because he spotted problems in the shuttle’s systems that those in charge were trying to ignore. He then breaks free and gets an illegal ticket for the flight, which of course goes wrong. The question is whether he can prevent a crash into the moon base and annoy William Shatner's "Murdock" in the process. Many familiar actors from the original are back, and there are some amusing spoofs featuring Burr, Shatner, Chuck Connors, Bono, and Rip Torn, but the comedic spark had already faded. This feels like a weak copy that has difficulty finding its footing; the humor is coarser and relies too much on brief celebrity appearances instead of a solid story. It’s easy enough to watch, but ultimately pretty forgettable.
