Harrison Ford’s performance really holds this film together for its lengthy running time. The storyline itself is pretty far-fetched: Air Force One gets taken over by a team of skilled terrorists under Gary Oldman’s leadership, who manage to seize control and keep the President captive. However, he turns out to be exceptionally capable himself, tricking them into believing he's escaped in an emergency pod. What follows is essentially a clever confrontation happening way up in the air, with many others suffering losses along the way. It’s fortunate that VP Glenn Close maintains some composure while managing events from below as our aerial opponents clash. The special effects are noticeably flawed at times; they seem to be overused and inconsistent. Overall, it's an acceptable action film, but you shouldn't analyze it too closely.
