This late 80s horror collection provides decent entertainment. A professor at a Los Angeles university uses unusual methods to instruct his students on fear, resulting in a warning from his colleagues. He then asks them to join him at his home for additional explorations, which results in the telling of three scary stories. “After Midnight” (1989) is similar to other thriller/horror anthologies such as “Trilogy of Terror,” which featured the well-remembered “Amelia” segment with its frightening Zuni doll. This film, written by the team behind "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4," presents four short stories if you count the connecting narrative, cleverly titled “Allison’s Story.” It's a bit funny that this one proves to be the strongest of the bunch and the movie would have been improved had it concentrated solely on this segment with more developed details. Ramy Zada is excellent as the professor who exudes a disturbing charm. However, the other three stories are acceptable and possess their own merits. Several actresses make an impression; Monique Salcido (as Lisa) in her close-fitting yellow dress, along with Judie Aronson (as Jennifer), both appear in “A Night on the Town.” Marg Helgenberger (as Alex) is also memorable in “All Night Operator.” The film’s length is 1 hour and 32 minutes, and it was filmed in Los Angeles, including locations like the Stimson House and Malibu.
