I went into this movie completely unaware that Mike Flanagan was behind the camera. Discovering his involvement early on made me anticipate something great, and thankfully, those expectations were met. There's a distinct quality to how he creates suspense in his movies; I’m not entirely sure what it is, but he’s exceptionally skilled at generating fear. The film clearly didn't have a huge budget, but surprisingly, that constraint actually enhanced the experience. It created a really unique atmosphere. The moments intended to startle weren’t standard jump scares, instead they were carefully crafted instances where you felt compelled to be completely focused on what was happening. I would absolutely watch it again and I'm eager to share it with my friends right away!
