Abigail isn’t groundbreaking territory, yet it manages a reasonably engaging horror film. While drawing on vampire horror tropes, I didn't personally find Abigail particularly scary. It lacked that feeling of building dread, which was disappointing. The movie attempts to create suspense early on, but doesn't explore the concept deeply enough or with sufficient nuance to be truly effective. Essentially, it falls into familiar vampire territory, where you quickly understand what you’re up against. This shifts the story and explanations toward a more action-oriented, gory style. It wasn’t unpleasant to watch; on the contrary, the performances were good, the atmosphere suitably unsettling, and the horror scenes well-crafted. However, I felt like I'd encountered similar elements before. The conclusion felt anticlimactic rather than impactful. Ultimately, Abigail seems like a chance lost to deliver something significantly more frightening and sinister than what’s presented. It wasn’t bad, just unremarkable.
