It’s possible to endure *A View to a Kill* simply because of Walken’s performance. However, it has to be admitted that he’s practically the sole justification for seeing it through to the end. The 1970s had ended by 1985, and Moore was unmistakably representative of that earlier era of James Bond. The tone, the ambiance, the absurdity, everything about 007 required an evolution, yet they were still clinging to a 1970s style of Bond in ’85. Furthermore, Moore himself began to resemble Bond from his 70s years. He was too old for the part; he didn't seem credible as a top agent and should have relinquished the role several movies prior. By 1985, that period of lightheartedness with Bond had run its course. A fresh 007 was necessary, and Moore simply wasn’t suitable anymore.
