While not quite as impressive as the preceding four installments, it remains a worthwhile James Bond movie featuring Christopher Walken, Tanya Roberts and Grace Jones. The story takes Agent 007 (Roger Moore) on a journey from snowy Siberia to England, Paris, San Francisco, and Silicon Valley while he investigates a horse-racing scheme and the deranged businessman, Max Zorin (Christopher Walken), who plans to flood Silicon Valley to establish a worldwide microchip monopoly. This marked Moore’s final appearance in a series of seven Bond films spanning 1973 to 1985, and it's a decent entry, though not reaching the heights of “The Spy Who Loved Me” (1977), “Moonraker” (1979), “For Your Eyes Only” (1981) and “Octopussy” (1983). Just as "For Your Eyes Only" reduced the outlandishness seen in "Moonraker," "A View to a Kill" (1985) offers a more restrained approach following the high-octane action of “Octopussy.” Consequently, the film emphasizes the psychological aspects of intrigue and competition. For example, there’s an extended sequence set at Zorin's grand estate and a horse racing scene that recalls the understated golf game in “Goldfinger” (1964). Despite this shift, plenty of action sequences are present, including a thrilling ski chase in Siberia, a pursuit and murder at the Eiffel Tower & Paris, a chaotic confrontation at a mansion, an elevator shaft engulfed in flames, a frantic car chase through San Francisco involving a fire engine, a prolonged battle within Zorin’s mine complex near the San Andreas fault, and a suspenseful finale at the Golden Gate Bridge. The female characters are memorable; Tanya Roberts is strikingly beautiful and contributes some noteworthy moments—she previously appeared in "Sheena," where she had to lose weight for an animal-skin bikini role (though she looked good regardless). Grace Jones delivers a compelling performance as a villain with a unique storyline, while Mary Ann Catrin Stavin also provides a brief but impactful appearance in the opening teaser. I feel compelled to address the criticisms some reviewers have leveled at Zorin’s ruthless behavior in the mines. I don't understand these complaints; are Bond villains expected to be pleasant? Zorin is unhinged, and that’s what people with megalomaniacal tendencies do! The movie has a running time of 2 hours, 11 minutes. GRADE: B
