Teyana Taylor delivers a notably impactful portrayal in this film. She portrays "Inez," a woman set on retrieving her young son, "Terry," from a challenging existence on New York’s streets. The story that follows effectively demonstrates the hardships they encounter as they navigate lives lacking both opportunity and financial resources, yet remain committed to one another despite frequent disagreements. During this time, she marries "Lucky" (William Catlett), an upstanding man who provides some measure of stability, and it seems “Terry” – initially portrayed by Aaron Kingsley Adetola and later by Josiah Cross, both convincingly – might finally have a chance at something better. However, the audience is aware that their bond isn't straightforward, and with impending legal action and a questionable landlord involved, it appears their aspirations are about to be destroyed. The film does feel drawn out; trimming roughly twenty minutes would likely improve it, and concentrating more on developing "Terry’s" character would have been beneficial. Nevertheless, it remains a compelling look at family bonds, faithfulness, and the disregard shown by those in power, which should resonate with viewers. While not requiring a theatrical release, it's certainly worth watching at home.
