The film depicts university students in Gwangju initiating widespread demonstrations against South Korea’s leader amid political turmoil. With media outlets silenced and restricted access imposed, the narrative centers on a taxi driver named Kim Man-seob and an undercover journalist, Jurgen "Peter" Hinzpeter, as they attempt to escape from Gwangju. The film's pacing is deliberate initially, but it gains momentum in the later parts, culminating in a moving conclusion. The performances are noteworthy; Song Kang-ho’s portrayal of the taxi driver and Thomas Krestcmann’s interpretation of Jurgen Hinzpeter both stand out. There were moments when the suspense was palpable, creating a sense of anxiety as the protagonists risked being discovered by authorities. The beginning portion, roughly the first ten to fifteen minutes, might lead viewers to believe they are watching a typical Korean drama. I give this movie a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars and wholeheartedly recommend seeing it.
