People who appreciate Barbra Streisand’s work will likely find something to like in this third telling of the familiar rags-to-riches narrative. This time around, Kris Kristofferson portrays a rock star struggling with his career due to negative press and questionable actions; he's clearly battling substance abuse. One evening, while out, he finds himself in a small club where a band called "the Oreos" is performing. He harshly criticizes their performance, much to Streisand’s annoyance. Despite this, he acknowledges her vocal talent and helps launch her toward fame. A key difference from the previous films is the increased amount of music—the soundtrack includes songs like “Evergreen” and “Lost Inside of You.” While it doesn't quite reach the heights of "The Man that Got Away," it serves as a pleasant replacement for some fairly ordinary conversations. As far as updated versions go, this one’s probably more rewarding to listen to than to watch. The final song is particularly good.
