This Colin Firth movie is quite enjoyable. The film feels well-made, presenting a story with substance and conviction. Firth delivers an impactful performance as the central character; he’s easily the most memorable part of the cast, even though Julianne Moore, Nicholas Hoult, and Matthew Goode all provide dependable supporting work. Jon Hamm appears in a brief role, and I initially believed it was Armie Hammer instead. My one reservation concerns the (apparently deliberate) color levels, which occasionally gave some scenes an inexpensive appearance, although they weren’t entirely without effect, at least to my eye. However, this isn't a significant issue, as I found myself appreciating this film from 2009.
