It’s easy to start sympathizing with Graham Marshall, the character at the center of "A Shock to the System," particularly as you witness him eliminating those who stand in the way of his career aspirations—a list that ultimately includes several significant people in his life. Jan Egleson's direction is superb; the camera work is dynamic, frequently shifting around the large office spaces and offering glimpses into everyday administrative routines. A steadily increasing sense of suspense develops as the story progresses, reaching a peak when it appears Marshall’s violent plans might be exposed. However, the filmmakers choose to have him avoid consequences, allowing his unethical pursuit of professional advancement to continue.
