I have mixed feelings about 'A Perfect World', but I can say without question that I found it enjoyable to watch. My hesitation comes from how the main character is presented. I understand what the filmmakers were aiming for; however, I’m not sure they succeeded. It’s pleasant enough to view, but I never felt any desire to support Kevin Costner's Butch. There were several instances where I just thought, "Really?". The film presents numerous scenes that seem intended to elicit empathy for Butch, yet I couldn’t manage it – he's difficult to like; the very first thing we see him do outside of prison seems to define his character and the entire movie. They could have developed his backstory in many different ways to provide a justifiable motivation for his actions. Nevertheless, despite that, it is entertaining, and I can’t deny that. What I mean to convey is that it functions as a film; however, considering its attempt (perhaps overly ambitious?) at thought-provoking themes and deeper significance, it stumbles – from a logical standpoint, I couldn't fully embrace it. If you’re looking for something lighthearted, I’m completely on board. P.S. It was amusing to notice the connection with 'Casper', considering Clint Eastwood would later make a cameo in the live-action film approximately two years after this one’s release.
