I came to this version having already experienced both the novel and the initial Swedish film adaptation, so I definitely had some preconceived notions going in. Despite that, I did enjoy the movie, particularly Marisol, Otto’s new neighbor. I made an effort not to constantly question whether certain elements were present in the earlier version and just tried to absorb it as it unfolded. It struck me as peculiar that the actors portraying young and old Otto didn't quite seem like people who would be handy around the house. I can’t say there’s a particular appearance that suggests someone possesses those kinds of abilities, though maybe his awkwardness contributed to my uncertainty about that. Ultimately, it was worthwhile, even if it isn’t something I’ll likely feel compelled to watch again anytime soon.
