Even though it’s based on actual events, Malick still pushes boundaries, trusting his intuition to create a thematic exploration that takes precedence over a conventional storyline. Running close to three hours, featuring minimal spoken words, a deliberate rhythm, and Malick's characteristic visual style, it won’t appeal to all viewers; however, those who connect with it will discover something deeply moving. 'A Hidden Life' isn't Terrence Malick returning to what he’s done before. It represents another stage in the development and examination of a truly unique filmmaker.
