I'm incredibly let down by this film. The first movie had a script that was enjoyable, along with decent action and special effects. This one, however, felt like a standard Hollywood production crafted by someone who either lacked intelligence or simply didn’t bother to care. It resembled something you might see on the SyFy channel. There wasn't anything logical about the writing. The storyline involving Chernobyl was frankly ridiculous. I’m certain the visual effects team had fun with the car chase at the beginning, but it felt over-the-top and silly to watch. Apparently, there are no police in Moscow because they could have been destroying cars indefinitely without anyone noticing. They enter Chernobyl and spray some kind of magical substance on a highly radioactive area, and suddenly the radioactivity disappears, allowing them to remove their protective gear. It’s just nonsense! They take a vehicle and drive to Chernobyl (which is roughly 1000 kilometers away, and the roads in Russia aren't like Western highways) and somehow arrive on time to intercept the villains who are flying around in helicopters. Not to mention how they managed to get close without being apprehended. I could continue listing issues, but it’s just increasingly disheartening. Oh, and my favorite part (said sarcastically), Switzerland has clearly invaded France since Grenoble is now part of Switzerland. It's amusing that I, who live a couple of hours from Grenoble, haven’t heard about this. That’s very typical of an ignorant American screenwriter who has never left Hollywood. Perhaps it was intended to be humorous, but I genuinely don’t think it was and, either way, it wasn’t funny. The only reason this movie receives a 4 out of 10 rating is because the special effects are impressive if you can overlook how absurd they are, and because Bruce Willis is in it. It's disappointing that they entrusted the franchise to someone or some people who were clearly incompetent.
