_A Ghost Story_ feels like one of the most melancholy films I’ve encountered. Going in, I wasn't anticipating much, and maybe that helped me appreciate it more. The movie creates a profound sense of loneliness and isolation throughout. It takes someone—a man in a bedsheet—to evoke such powerful feelings from viewers. Watching it really prompts reflection on one's own existence and its significance. Despite my admiration for the film, there are some small issues I noticed. Director David Lowery includes several very lengthy shots that seem to depict absolutely nothing. While I grasp his intention with these sequences, and they did have a certain effect, they contributed to an overall slowness and dragged down the movie's rhythm. Just as it seemed like the film was finding its stride, one of these scenes would interrupt things and disrupt my engagement. Nevertheless, I’m still prepared to award this 4.5 stars because of how distinctive it is and the emotions it stirred in me during the entire viewing experience.
