The Kalahari adventure! Those who enjoy Disney’s live-action movies will likely find this one pleasing. It occupies a space between their standard animated features and nature documentaries, unfolding in Namibia and transporting viewers on an experience that feels more like a documentary than a traditional narrative film. There was a brief storyline, primarily at the beginning and conclusion, while the majority of the runtime resembled 'The Way Back' with its focus on travel. The movie is based on a book about two children who join forces with a bushman to traverse the Kalahari desert following an attack on their family by poachers. I went in knowing very little, so my expectations were low. However, it brought ‘The Gods Must Be Crazy’ to mind; though not comedic, I braced myself for something different. While I enjoyed the film, it didn't completely wow me. The African scenery is stunning, and everyone delivers excellent performances. It would have been even better if more wildlife had appeared—that’s what you expect with an “African flavor,” particularly from younger viewers. In that regard, it falls a little short, but not significantly. Otherwise, it’s a solid family film from a reliable studio. 6.5/10
