This movie felt incredibly bleak. The pacing was problematic; it’s definitely one of those films that demands significant patience from the viewer. It isn't your typical horror offering, although there are familiar elements within its genre. The story unfolds with a small group of characters primarily inside an isolated Irish mansion. They gather to perform some kind of ritual intended to open a gateway for a dark force, though their motivations aren’t entirely aligned. It seems like a difficult project, and it was clear that the filmmakers faced numerous obstacles during production. Ultimately, whether they succeed in what they set out to do leads us to the conclusion, which includes a minor surprise. It's an independent Irish film, marking the director’s first feature-length work. I wasn't familiar with either of the actors, but their performances were commendable. Considering the budget, the film possesses surprising quality. The atmosphere is well-crafted, and the suspense carries the narrative through to its conclusion. Aside from the initial scenes, the middle section suffered from a lack of progression; however, things improved considerably once the final act began, leading to a satisfying resolution. That’s what ultimately redeemed this movie for me—I was prepared to criticize it harshly. The ending itself wasn't exceptional, but it felt appropriate given what came before.
