I had planned to see this film in a cinema, but while I was on my way, I realized that I wasn’t consuming enough cannabis to enjoy more than a few of his songs—and one of those I actually preferred when Jimi Hendrix performed it. So, instead, my wife and I went for a bike ride, and I held off until it became available on Hulu. The thing is, even though his music isn't really my cup of tea, I’m very fond of the music from that period, along with all the interesting facts and even those theories surrounding them that I only occasionally buy into... well, it’s 2025 now, I don’t know what to believe anymore… but I do have enough knowledge about Bob to be frustratingly aware of its complete lack of accuracy. I'm fairly certain artificial intelligence wrote a large portion of the screenplay. It wasn’t that he wasn’t an important figure; I understand and accept that he was, and even appreciate why some people enjoy him—and Rod Stewart too—I can even find enjoyment in singers who are frequently out of tune. The issue was that it simply didn't feel like a film about Bob. It seemed more like AI had examined films such as Ray, Bohemian Rhapsody, Walk the Line, La Bamba, and Great Balls of Fire—all those musician biopics—and then combined them with Almost Famous to create a standard script based on what AI believed his life story should be, given the success of other music-related biographical movies. It’s so sanitized; it's practically Bob Dylan using autotune. I can’t imagine how anyone could find enjoyment in something like that.
