I thought this one felt too heavy-handed and stuck to a predictable pattern. It was nice to see Luke Treadaway back as James, along with Bob the Cat; before his unfortunate death. But most of the rest seemed contrived. The storyline is dull and foreseeable, and much of the conversation comes across as explaining things instead of demonstrating them—the reverse of what made the 2016 film so good. Aside from Treadaway’s dependable performance, the supporting actors aren't particularly memorable, although I enjoyed Phaldut Sharma’s portrayal of Moody. The absence of Ruta Gedmintas and Joanne Froggatt is noticeable, but I can see why they might not have aligned with the story they chose to tell here, especially in Froggatt’s case. There are still some heartwarming moments and plenty of cute cat antics to be found. Sadly, it just didn't quite come together because of those issues I mentioned—at least from my perspective. It’s not awful, though.
